Singapore is a shopper & foodie paradise, but then, so are HongKong, Bangkok, KL, Taipei, Shanghai....

Well some may say that Singapore is clean, safe, convenient, efficient, least corrupted,.... and so, the list goes on...
But the locals here who take all these for grant would only say one thing... BOoooRIiiiiiNG!!!!

The schooling ones go to school, tuition, enrichment courses, tuition, piano lesson, tuition, ballet, tuition...
The youngters fav pastimes are LAN or Online games. The younger working class fav pastimes are movies, pubing, clubing, hanging out at starbucks...
The family man and woman, well, whatelse, family time, and... tuition.
The Rich, Shopping at Mega malls and Fine Dinning. The poor, shopping at heartland malls and dinning at coffee shops...
The old either goes clubing at the NTUC Club or hanging around void-decks playing chess, playing birds (literally) or watching the world goes by.
Bored, bored, what a darn boring Country.... But, can you find me someone from another who will say theirs isn't...

Now to answer the question, let's just say that what makes Singapore a sought after destination, is what the other destinations lacked.

Sought after aye? Honestly, marketing of the country from STB is good.

But according to a lot of my friends from abroad, if not for their friends or family residing here, it's gonna be one of those places that you went once and seen it all and never thrilled to revisit.

Personally,I feel that the only draw would be the lower crime rate as compared to many other countries. How many countries allow you to walk on the streets at 3am and not getting mobbed or gunned down? Honestly.

Good food you might say. Frankly, options for food are plenty here. You will find a food place every 3 to 5 steps you take, but not neccesarily good food. Most of the time you will feel cheated or exploited. As compared to many other countries around us, like Malaysia,Thailand,Hong Kong,Taiwan, etc. chances of hitting on an outlet with fantastic food is sky-rocket high. What's the diff? They cooked with their heart. Local hawkers just cook for the sake of cooking. Probably cut down a few fishballs or strands of mushroom to cut cost and earn more. Blame the hire rental they might say.

Friendly people you might say? Are we friendlier than the Thais and the Japs? And since when do you consider the friendliness of the locals when you're considering a travel destination?

So,your question really set us thinking.... What makes Singapore a sought after destination,in all respect? No respect? How about aspect?

Many Filipinos apply for jobs in Singapore because there are many opportunities to work there especially for the IT industry. The jobs can be obtained online. And then, since it's so close to Manila, the Singapore-based workers can go home even once a month. The wife of my friend had to learn how to bake though because she claims that after staying in Singapore for quite a while, she couldn't find a delicious chocolate cake when she had the craving for it. I have been to Singapore twice, but would prefer the charm and confusion of Bangkok a dozen times over. Singapore is so ORDERLy, I can't stand it!

Singapore is a sought-after destination because it offers a level of service that many Americans and other Westerners only dream about while at the same time providing a high tech, fully modern environment where English is widely spoken. They put up with the strict laws because the service and hospitality they experience are hard to find in their own countries. That, and it is one of the most stable countries in the tropics.

Sought after destination in all respect? I think that's not a correct generalization. It may be true for some, but not for everybody. If you'd been there once, I am sure, you don't want to go there again if it is not really important.

Asians might like Singapore for its manmade attractions, high standard of living, economic opportunities, stable government, strength of currency, peaceful environment... but I doubt the island state qualify as a "sought-after destination" generally. The more sophisticated, well-off Singaporeans have left the island already.

Hmmm.. To Singaporeans like me Singapore has already become a very boring place. Perhaps its because of the fact that it's small, there's hardly anywhere to hang out and it's all the same few places anyway. Like for shopping it will like always be Orchard/town area since every where else is heartlands.

Haha,I dont really noe what appeals to tourists though.

Personally, I have very fond memories of Singapore. The cleanliness, the warmth of the people, the diversity that you saw in the small city-nation...

My family and I would stop in Singapore for 3 days each year on our way back from our annual trip to India (on our way back to Taiwan). I loved Sentosa Island and the Singapore Zoo. I also loved the shopping centers, the hotels there (Raffles was SO impressive!).

Even the little shops by the wayside - little India on Serangoon Road, Orchard Plaza, CK Tangs...I really enjoyed our trips there.

My older brother and his wife live in California, and actually for their honeymoon, they chose to go to Singapore and REALLY had a WONDERFUL time there! (He'd been before, of course, but she'd never had the chance to go before and she LOVED it! :o))

i think of that's a surprising tagline and for people who're so rapid to leap on the bandwagon to condemn the tagline, do you even evaluate the reasoning in the back of the tagline? at the beginning, that's YourSingapore. The tagline is designed to cater to the increasing type of trip makers who're coming to Singapore on their very own. they have made Singapore their very own playground. it particularly is what STB is attempting to tell something of the worldwide, Singapore is a place the place vacationers could make it their very own. Singapore is now theirs! this manner, vacationer familiarity with Singapore is larger and that they are inspired to return repeatedly. Scouring the worldwide to verify what different countries are doing, with remarkable Thailand, marvelous India and so forth. the element is in basic terms about all those adjectives would be planted next to Singapore and critics would be leaping up and down returned - in basic terms as they had critiqued Uniquely Singapore. YourSingapore is a courageous attempt through the STB to faucet on the increasing use of internet international. This industry of youthful, knowledgeable and savvy means vacationers is what the STB is eying. no count if or no longer they'll prevail relies upon on STB's persist with-up strikes, i think of STB is on the suitable music. little question there are numerous paintings to be accomplished yet i think of maximum adverse comments are from people who're no longer from the tourism industry and not acquainted with tourism developments. on the topic of a few concepts, tremendously people who help Malaysia particularly Asia don't comprehend tourism and taglines. Malaysia particularly Asia - the marketing campaign is speaking specifically to markets outdoors Asia. Why would different travellers from different Asia markets decide directly to visit yet another place that's "particularly Asia"? i'd prefer to visit someplace that may not regular to me. With China, India and Vietnam going to steer the vacationers arrivals figures, Malaysia has to without put off junk that tagline and paintings on something that could entice those new markets.
