Actually no. There is a safety net for this that banks have designed. Sure he got the details of your name and other bank related information but he can only make deposits. Withdrawals is another thing. If you yourself didn't authorize or given him some sort of authorization letter then he wouldn't get it himself. ID's and your signature are also required.

But if this counterfeit person is really good then he can duplicate a check and easily withdraw the money.

It's best to report this incident to the bank manager so that actions may be initiated. They can freeze your account for a while then set a trap for the suspect with the cooperation of the police or you can transfer your funds to a new account. Take action immediately.

Oh boy, you have just given them everything they need to steal your identity. Some things to do 1) call your bank or better yet go to your bank and tell their fraud department what you did, make arrangements to change all of your account numbers and to get new checks and a new ATM card. 2) If you have direct deposit of your payroll check get the deposit changed to the new account and while this is happening get them to give you your check. 3) Contact the credit bureaus and have them put a freeze on your accounts. This means they will have to contact you before they give out any information on your credit. 4) Last but not least call the police department and report the identity theft. Now you must be vigilant, if you receive credit card statements that are fraudulent you must report it right away to the police and to the company that sent you the bill. Identity Theft can take years to correct and can ruin your credit rating. You might want to talk to an attorney just so you know all of your legal rights and obligations. Good luck you are going to need it.

No. They must have this information. There is no way to apply the funds. They also cannot reveal that your friend even has a bank account there if you know their full name, etc. due to privacy laws. Some utility companies will allow you to post a utility payment if you know the person's address, or you could give them cash. An amex or visa/mastercard branded gift card would also work, although you will have to pay an extra $3 or so to activate it. Good luck! You are nice!

Don't panic, folk !!
They still have no idea what your PIN is (PIN = Personal Identification Number) and what the name of your birth mother is.
But, this is an exception, if they have a scrambler/decoding machine, they could track it down, though it takes a quite long time to do that stuff.
Now, firstly, take a deep breath, relax, & call your bank, tell them everything that has happened and if necessary, close your account right away.
If the bank's closed, try contact their 24 hour call center and block your account, your ATM card (ATM=Automated Teller Machine) and ask them to confirm it with you first if anyone is identified trying to do some transfers or withdrawals.
You'll be safe if you do that (I mean your bucks).

Don't worry, be happy !!

Until unless you declare the secret no/passwords to transact online, nobody cany put their hands in your money. But if you feel that you had revealed the secret details, then immediately inform your banker to stop transacting on your earlier PIN/passwords and ask them provide with new PIN/passwords.

best of luck
