I've read in places like Wal*Mart, Target, or even public schools, you aren't allowed to say "Christmas". It has to be "Happy Holidays". And then there's "X-mas". That really irritates me. They just put and X over where Christ's name would be. That sounds a lot like people are trying to take the Christ out of Christmas and only focus on presents and stuff like that. I am a United Methodist, and I find this to be wrong and against our Lord and Savior that was born on CHRISTmas Day.

It was a Christian lady who took Walmart to court over their "Merry Christmas" greeting. Saying Merry Christmas was an offense in her particular pet variety of Christianity. Christmas greetings and celebrations of any kind were banned for the first 22 years after Puritans landed in America. Most of how we do celebrate Christmas, our greetings and the tree and such, didn't start until the mid 1800's:

I too am a christian, but I take no offense to this. Truth is Christmas is just a day we designated to celebrate christ's birth. He wasn't really born on december 25th. In fact the origin of christmas is a pagan holiday. Who cares what it is called? If some other religion feels less offended by changing the name, then let them. It doesn't change the way we, as christians, celebrate it.

Thats why I make a point when in target to tell every person I see Merry Christmas. Especially the staff.
I see they at least call the Christmas Tree that again. In 2004 It was renamed the Holiday Tree. That only lasted a year mercifully.
Celebrate as you wish but dont spoil it for true Christmas celebrators.

I totally agree. It seems the shops want every religion to spend up big during Christmas for its own gain ,yet they are trying to get rid of the real meaning of why we have Christmas, Its not about Santa and presents. I am also sick of the ways schools are becoming so afraid of offending peoples feelings by talking about Jesus during Christmas. Kids don't learn the traditional Christmas songs any more. You wont hear Silent Night or Away in a manger sung at any public school anymore. Its a real shame because even those kids who don't share the Christian faith shouldn't be blackmailed into believing that Christmas is only about Santa and Presents. We really need to teach our kids the true meaning of Christmas.

You have a point. Today, when people are giving gifts- they don't think about GENEROSITY, they think of REWARDS or EXCHANGE!!!

I went to my nephews Christmas program at a PUBLIC school and they sang Christmas songs. So I don't know the answer. Where I live, in the US, people say Christmas all the time.

It saddens me to know there are businesses that will go to the extreme of taking Christ out of Christmas. It looks like they will do whatever it takes to make a buck. Our freedoms are deminishing and this is just another form of that. It's really sad that it has to happen on Christ's Birthday. It is offending and shows me what businesses will do just to be greedy. It's good to know which one's do it. I'll take my business to places that allow every religion to celebrate thier holidays. Ours is called CHRISTMAS!

You can say Christmas anywhere you want. It's just that political correctness has gotten a bit out of control. Some people are afraid to offend people that celebrate Hannukah and Kwaanza and the other holidays.

and..I agree...it's the CHRIST that makes it Christmas!!! If not for HIM, it would just be another day.
It's the celebration of HIS birth....that's what Christmas is for, not presents.
