I have checked the volume settings and they are dis-abled. The beep seems to be coming externally (if that makes sense) ie not through the speakers?

I need to expand on this: It's a very loud beep that happens whenever I:

a) Receive email, b) A task bar comes up (ie, yes / no), c) I accidently click the wrong thing (in any programme (word, excel etc)
d) I scroll up and down in spreadsheets. It's very loud and annoying and seems to come externally, not through the speakers.

Please help me stop it!

What you have there is there is sound coming from your PC speakers (usually when you boot up your PC, you'll also hear a beep to indicate all-systems-go). Depending on the email software you're using (i.e. Mozilla Thunderbird, MS Outlook, etc.) you may want to check out the settings for when receiving email, it may be set to do a computer beep.

Your computer can make a noise though your sound board or through the mother board. alerts come through the mother board. If you don't want alerts on email, then turn that function off.
