What I do is lock step, and follow my job description to the letter nothing more nothing less. I feel what you are going through.

I am constantly the top producer at my work place. I am also the white person(I tried my best to think these weren't related). I get no credit or recognition from her, I do get i from her boss. I will have her job by the end of January.

So in short, stick by your guns, don't compromise your own work ethic, be the best worker you can. He will have to notice and you will get your just rewards. Or look for other avenues of employment. In my case I would rather show her incompetence and look good doing it.

You do your very best with what you have been given or, you find another job. Don't focus on the Supervisor. Focus on what you are achieving on the job and what a great job you are doing. Write yourself merits. Put them on the wall. Put stickies on your desk that give you pats on the back for the great job you are doing. You don't need the Supervisor to feel good about yourself.

You may have come off as a potential competitor to him, someone who will dethrone him, or at least that what he thinks. Just work quietly and efficiently, proving to him that you are a good member of his team and supports the team under his leadership. Once he sees that you geniunely work for the team, then he will no longer see you as a threat, but rather as an ally. This time, he will be open to your suggestions, and may even let you do things your way. Don't worry. Your time will come and you will be recognized by Management, and who knows, in a few years you will be the Manager! But you will have retained your former Supervisor's good graces and he will surely support you in your new roles. Believe me, this happened to me.

Psychology. Flatter and praise. Schmooze. Create a 'personal connection' even if it's not sincere, and you will find yourself talked TO rather than AT, and favoritism that comes with a 'bond'. It sucks, but it's the game and until you are the one making the rules, work within them to your advantange.
