Why won't it be like "happy birthday", "happy new year", or "happy thanksgiving", "happy valentine's day", "happy easter" and so on...?

It comes from old English, where "merry" was used frequently.

Happy Christmas sounds retarded, like Merry Thanksgiving.

at the same time as the social engineers have performed a good job of ridding the Christmas trip of any of it quite is non secular meaning, it continues to be called a stat trip in maximum international locations and that i do no longer hear any of the non-Christians or atheists bitching in regards to the getting the time without work. I determine saying "Merry Christmas" isn't this type of undesirable element for every person to assert because many people earnings from this trip. at the same time as i are not getting disenchanted at 'satisfied trip journeys' i'm no longer quite inspired with words like 'trip' celebration or 'trip' tree, those statements are basically stupid.

It is the religious connection with the birth of Christ. I have been places where people actually use the phrase Happy Christmas instead because of this connection.

There doesn't seem to be any reason why "Merry" is said instead of "Happy" except that it has just become more popular to say "Merry." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merry_Christmas#Merry.2FHappy_Christmas for some more information regarding this.

Good Luck!!!

Christmas is the rebel of the bunch.. not the conformist like the others.

It is unique and special, and maybe it's a secret way of having Mother Mary's name next to her son's! ;)

Merry Christmas = Mary Christ (or) = marry Christ?

Maybe it's a subliminal message for us to marry (unite) with Christ our Savior at Mass (the Catholic church service).. Oh, that makes sense.. that's what you do during communion - you become one with Christ by eating his flesh (bread) and drinking his blood (wine)..

Wow. Divine inspiration has it hard 2nite! ;)
