They are very bright creatures actually.
In France they are used to hunt truffles. They can compete with dogs when it comes to searching for lost people.
They are also very companionable.
And of course if you are short of some bacon for breakfast....

They don't have an IQ, but they are definetly smarter. It is just not very noticeable because the part of them that isn't smart says to eat all day long. They also make certain noises for certain things. I've been around pigs long enough that it's dead obvious when they are making the contented grunt, they play 'bark', the feed me grunt, etc. They dig is the dirt to cool off (and for fun!) too, along with the fact that they eat roots and grass. Potbellied pigs are supposed to be as smart as a five year old.

about the same as a middle intelligence breed dog
this is why some people say you shouldnt eat pig becuase its the same as eating a dog as far as intelligence goes...
