Why not? Race, creed and colour do not appear to be a bar towards achieving such aims. The USA has moved on from the bad old days of segregation you know. General Colin Powell was the first black person to reach the exalted position of Chairman of the JCS.

Even to ask the questions poses the position that there is still an issue. I do not vote on looks or style. I vote for a candidate on issue and how that person would best represent me and protect America. America needs to be more color blind to get past the racial overtones that still exist by both Blacks and Whites. No matter what Dr. King has tried to teach us , we still cannot put American first before race. We still have awhile to go.

I don't think america is ready for a black president yet .
Still quite a lot of white people ( mainly old folks ) in US would say to a black person in anger I could have you hanged for doing this 50 years ogo.

Not yet. Maybe in another generation or 2 perhaps. Older people today were around when segregation was still in effect. Although, people may not necessarily be racist, they are still from a time where it was a way of life to outcast black people. That still may be in the back of their minds. Even more so for senior citizens.

OF COURSE they could be. In fact I'm surprised there hasn't been one already. As a European, i find it embarrassing that EVERY president since their revolution has belonged to the same ethnic group ( i.e., European).
I'd love to see Obama as president. He is young, optimistic and CONFIDENT. Plus he isn't a religious crackpot.
Incidentally there's no reason a Black, female, LESBIAN shouldn't be president one day either. Hmmmm......
