When I boot up my laptop, it's just says "operating system not found". It worked fine, the charger broke, so I bought a new one, it worked fine to start with but then the second time I booted up, it made a disconcerting noise and then just says the above, after the screen where I'm prompted to press or . It's a P4 Samsung laptop, and it was running Windows XP. I have Windows 98 on disc. Any (serious) advice greatfully recieved!!!

sorry dude, if it made that noise, your hard drive is probably bad or your boot sector is bad. For windows xp, you need the disc to recreate the boot sector. PM me on yahoo at john_aka_bean and i'll help you what i can.

I just got over the same problem. My computer used to say that and make a clicking noise like a blinker being turned on. Turn on your computer and hold down a key till an error message appears that says key stuck. hit f4 for set up and try to go to safe mode or restore the defaults.

Do you have a CD/DVD/Floppyor USB drive in any drives or slots ?? This will cause that error if it tries to boot too it.

Otherwise it might be that the noise you heard was teh Hard Drive packing up.

cheers

You hard disk is probably dead as a dodo.

They can be either easy or a real pig to get out and replace depending on the model.

What was the noise exactly, update your question with a description.

Mine says that too, every time I switch it on! I just ignore it, click on the cross and get on with it. It does everything that it's supposed to do after that, so... Maybe it'll stop coming up with that message after a while, when it realises that I'm "not bothered". Attention-seeking, that's all it is...

your driver maybe short circuited while charging... maybe because the charger is not genuine and could not match the voltage even if the voltage labelled matches the voltage of your laptop... better, have windows reinstalled...

when you got your new ac charger did you make absolute sure you bought one that matched wattage/voltage and especially the amperage output...? some hardware components may forgive the small differences, other components will not.
