microfiber cloth...i rub my strings down after i play every time now matter how short i play. gets the oils off the strings and keeps them on there longer. My strings will stay on for about 4 months if i play 4 hours a day every day but i normally change them every 2 months

Every time you play the guitar, wipe the strings with a chess cloth.

Oils and acids from the hands can corrode them. Wipe off with a soft cloth after playing. Some people boil strings to remove dirt, but this is extreme, as new ones are not THAT much.

LPS 1 Spray on a lint free cloth.
Not WD-40!

maybe you could clean it well then after,,, apply oil to it so it will not easily break.. maybe it can help like a moisturizing lotion does to your skin.. From what I know,, oil can prevent your guitar from getting rusted., As we all know, rust is one tough guitar-string antagonist to handle..So try it and I really hope it works.. Gud luck with your guitar..

Exactly what sepolavi said. Wipe the sweat/oil off after each use.

Like the others said, keep them clean. I would also add de-tension them if you are not going to play for a while. Invest in a tuning fork and re-tune as necessary.
