it depends what i throw.... what i started..
if it's something huge, something that evokes strong passion around me, id say i make a wave...
but most often i just make ripples...
my opinions are not so wordly, but personal.
i dont even notice i made a difference.

from the side of the river it looks still,
from above i can see my ripples reaching
as far as my eyes can no longer see.

If you click on my profile and read some of my stuff, you will discover that I do not think like most people, nor do I live a conventional life. I won't give away all of my secrets here, but if you follow enough links and do some internet sleuthing you will eventually see that I am somewhat well-known in a variety of subcultures (although I doubt that anyone can connect enough dots to get a full picture of who I really am).

So what waves do I make? I make waves mostly in the noosphere (aka, the realm of mind and spirit) by taking people's hearts and brains on field trips to places that they might otherwise never go. But I also splash around in the muddy puddles of moral conscience. I introduce people to lifestyles that take them far from the beaten path. For the most part I avoid making headlines, so most of my waves are beyond the visible spectrum of popular culture, but just because some waves are invisible does not mean they don't have an effect. You need to wear special glasses to see the waves that I make, but once you see them, you can see into the future. Depending on your perspective, this can be fun or frightfully freaky. In a private email, one person said that people like me caused the downfall of Rome. Maybe so, although as I understand it, lead poisoning had something to do with it as well. Be that as it may, on two separate occasions (back before the days of Yahoo Answers), Yahoo deleted my account. Why? Was I being nasty? No, not at all (well, unless you consider honest discussions about the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of human erotic desire to be nasty.) If you read my Yahoo Answers, you will pretty much see what I do, and it's not bad. So why was I deleted? Because people complained about my web pages, or my groups, or something, and from Yahoo's perspective this meant I was making the wrong kind of waves. But I don't take it personally. They don't know me ;-)

Ripples are small, slow, seemingly insignificant. Waves are big, noticeable, attention grabbing. The bigger the tidal movement, the bigger the effect it has on us. However, ripples can subtly sneak up to the sand castle and push it to the ground.
I like to make ripples, there is little pressure on me to destroy the sand castle with one shot. Yet my ripples will get there, my seemingly insignificant tasks shall slowly achieve my goal, and anybody who had prepared for a wave wouldn't be expecting.
If not, I'd just drop a nuke... would that cause a wave?

Yes, both can be done. When you do something for people and it benefits them, they not only see the example of you as an individual but as someone they can trust and rely on. Most people see only the superficial part of you, sooner or later the realize the effects of you being present in their lives. That's when people value you more. Whenever someone sees one thing as a ripple, someone else sees it as a wave.

Well... I hope i make ripples. Ripple is form when something is dropped into a water body and it just grow bigger but fades off. I hope that the things i done, will affect people around me and their friends and make their lives. As long that they are happy, i do not mind being forgotten.

Ripples turn into waves by the time they reach the other shore.

She is asking what kind of impact you have on the world around you.

I make waves. Using Y!Answers.

For bonus point: Why Y!Answers? Well, that is the only media (meaning the Internet) that is accessible to the ordinary people who strives for the truth.
