I have Openoffice on my PC. What I need to know is how to curve or bend text.

Can't help you with Open Office. But in Word, you can use Word Art. Word Art has various templates, one being a curve in which the text is typed. Whether the curved text can be saved as a graphic and pasted onto an Open Office page I don't know.

Italics is maybe what you're talking about?

Select/highlight the text you want italicized and click the Italics button on the text objects bar.

try to find any editing options by selecting u r text in edit column in the application
