They're doing this to tease us. No to mention that it would be too predictable - the lovely criminal with the fearless doctor - but I like to think that in the end, at the end of the show, they will somehow get together... Her and Sawyer, well... they're just too alike - both criminals, both with harsh pasts, both have suffered from love and lost.... Don't think it'll work. but, then again, it's not our call - the producer/writer/or whoever is in charge decides....

Jack loves kate but because of Sawyer being the bad boy, and some women just being attracted to bad boys, he hasn't got a chance.

because the sexual tension is what keeps the viewers coming back in hopes that they'd get together..
personally i dont like them as a couple, too predictable.
