My brother always seems to be around the £500 figure (5 bed house) for autumn/winter quarter. Is this normal/average these days?

If he's GCH and runs a lot of gas appliances then it could be, although we've got three rooms, run on BG for almost everything and our last bill was 260, so it seems quite a bit steeper than mine...

I live in a 2 bed terraced and there are two of us living there. Last bill was £65. For a 5 bed house, I presume there are more than two people that live there so Gas bill would be higher especially autum/winter time. Heating a 5 bed house uses more gas than a heating a small terraced. It tells you on your Gas bill if it is estimated and how they worked out what gas you have used. If it is an estimated bill, you need to get your gas meter reading and tell the gas company as this could knock some money off the bill, or could have the reveres effect and add money on.
