considering that u dnt want the ubuntu right after windows and all the files are also unnecessary
simply insert the windows xp cd and let it boot once all the disks had been checked and the licence has been agreed upon u will see the partition of ur hard disk then delete all the partitions and create new partition
only then u will be able to install windows on the hard disk u
should have free space on ur hard disk
or format the whole drive and create new partitions with the above mentioned way
happy recovery
fuirther having probs u can mail me at akash2004u@gmail.com

If you are using Ubuntu and trying to install windows to work alongwith then it will be difficult. If possible Delete the Ubuntu Installation. For that run the Ubuntu installation from the disk, and when you are in partitioning dialog, select custom partitioning and delete all partitions there so that there is only unpartitioned space left. After that restart computer without proceeding the installation, and take the Ubuntu disk out of cd bay. Then insert windows disk, and proceed with installation. Repartition the hard disk to make enough partitions so that you will be able to install Ubuntu later. Complete the installation. After Xp installation is over you can begin installation of Ubuntu. It will configure your Xp installation and give you a dual boot system where you can use both the os.

Well the XP disk should auto format to NTFS deleting Ubunto and the FAT 32 formated partition. If not try using partition magic to clear and format and then use the XP disk.

Delete the prevailing partition if one exists. Create a clean partition, formatted as NTFS (rapid) if it quite is been formatted as quickly as already or NTFS if it quite is type new and desires checking for undesirable sectors. set up residing house windows as all the default concepts.

for windows xp, it will format the drive for you. just select which drive in the bootable setup. Select "format drive using Ntfs" (do not use quick format if its a FRESH drive out of the box or previously had fat32)
