****If you're a beginner at this, you should probably practice with an eyeliner pencil before trying to use liquid eyeliner, which requires a lot more precision. ****

Remove all eye makeup and start with a fresh face.
Put translucent powder (or just face powder) on your eyelids first.
Start with a black, non-smudging eyeliner.
Use your left index finger (if you are a righty) or your right index finger (if you are a lefty) and pull your eye gently to the side and slightly up, towards the far end of your eyebrow. It doesn't matter which eye you do first.
With your strong hand (right hand if you are a righty and left hand if you are a lefty), apply eyeliner to your eyelid. Draw a line as close to your eyelashes as possible, starting at the outer corner with a heavier stroke, and then lightening up as you reach the center of your eyelid. You can smudge the line a little bit if you want it to look more natural, or if you want to go more dramatic, add another line above and just overlapping the line you just drew. If you don't have a steady hand, draw dots, and connect them later. :-)

Hi, liquid eyeliner is tricky business and requires a steady hand and nerves of steel. I would also suggest a large bottle of eye makeup remover :-P

I love the look of liquid eyeliner and I find that the best way to apply it is to tilt your head UPso you can get a clear view of the lash line, so essentially you are looking up through your lashes at the lash line, and then, resting the hand holding the eyeliner on your face, start applying from the inside of the lash line to the outside. You can apply the mascara to half the lid first and then check it in the mirror to make sure it is coming out well. Its ok to lay it on a bit thick because any excess is easily removable with a Q-tip soaked in makeup remover. You can create a well-defined, straight line by going a little heavy and then removing the excess little by little as you see fit.

Also, if you have specific makeup problems or a particular skin tone/liner question, I find that the best answers are solved by visiting my favorite makeup counter. Once you see how the professionals do it, you will always remember and be able to use this knowledge. If you want to splurge on a makeover, usually free with a medium-sized purchase, you can bring a list of all of your makeup questions, and ask them to address your problem areas in their application, they can talk you through it, so that you can start applying like your own makeup like a pro, too! I went from being a complete neophyte who didn't even own lipstick, to being able to apply very nice-looking evening makeup that was often complemented on: smoky eyes and everything, courtesy of my favorite brand, MAC.

Hope this helps! There are also a lot of resources online, you may want to google: "apply liquid eyeliner," and see what you come up with! :-D

when you are about to apply it make sure that you rest your elbow on a table so that you can move your hand steadily. apply pencil eyeliner on your top eyelid and then go over it with your liquid liner. and when you apply your liquid liner try tilting your head back a little so that you're looking down at your nose and rest the hand with the liner on your face (it will make it easier to apply the liner and give you a steady hand.

the best way that i know how is to close your eyes half way and to get the liner pen right where your eyelashes are and slowly draw your line right above the lash line.. it may take a few tries but sooner or later you will be a pro.... practice makes perfect!
