Some women are married to men who can well afford to keep both their lifestyles in balance with or without kids. Some couples really don't care for kids and want their wives happy through whichever means possible. If her contribution to society is based on her ability to gain employment, then I think you might need to read a little on economics. Consumers contribute so much to society, doing their bit to maintain jobs and the livelihoods of others. It is none of our business whether or not a woman chooses to work and if she wants children, if her partner is happy to provide...we can either mind our own business or turn into green eyed monsters because they are getting a better deal than the rest of us.

I think a women should do whatever pleases her, makes her happy and comfortable. But given a choice, I would really think a woman is waisting her life if she decides to sit at home, clean all day, cook for one or two, watch TV and read "light stuff" .We humans were given a great gift its called BRAIN. One has to use it if you do not use it you lose it. You need to study or participate in things that stimulate your brain otherwise you become a "non-participating in life person" one that life goes by her and at the end of the day, i.e. when time to part from the world has come, you want to look back and say: I had a good interesting full of purpose life. Being a housewife? I hardly think that can fill a life.
No hard feelings I hope for anyone who chose to live her life like that.

There are more women staying home these days than even five years ago...with or without children. Those who think house-wives make no contribution to society obviously don't know what a house-wife does...or perhaps only knows how to value something in terms of "dollars earned". My wife is a concert fluatest with ten years experience and is very happy to stay at home...no children yet, but we're working on it. :D

Some women work from home, work by managing the house, etc. Some women don't need to work and their husbands prefer to take care of them and they're happy that way. They can contribute to society in many ways still with volunteering, charity work, etc. Then there are handicapped people who are unable to work. Everyone's situation is different. I wish I didn't have to work!

They can do what they want. They have the freedom to choose. If they find someone who is willing to support them then that's the decision of those two people. Are they contributing to society? Well unless they are involved in charities, volunteer work etc as someone else mentioned then no. What are they contributing other than Nilson's TV ratings? Asethetics to the neighborhood by properly manicuring the garden?

I should hope they found something to do with their lives. Volunteer work sounds good.

Why not if it is her choice. How about, for example, grandmas, whose children already have their own lives, so they do not need to look after them anymore. Of course they are contributing to society. Housekeeping is a labor that should even be paid, but nevertheless most women are doing it for free. it is paid only in soem well developed countries. I would rather ask what is society doing for them.

Whould? Or do you mean 'Should'? Of course they should. Why not? If they take care of their man, he takes care of mama. Mama is happy. Everyone knows if Mama is happy everyone is happy, thusly contributing to a happy society.
