Do you really mean "monistic" (the concept that the universe is built of one substance)? Or "monotheistic" (the belief that there is only one God? Or "monastic" - pertaining to monks.

I didn't know that any religions were monistic. Judaism, Christianity and Islam tend towards dualism (there's "stuff" and there's "spirit"). I suppose budhism could be monistic, but I don't know enough about it to say.

Except for the minor distortions, inclusions & omissions in interpretation, all religions essentially are based on the same tenets.

Same goes for the practicing monks irrespective of the religious framework - Theirs is essentially the philosophy of walking the path alone, involves self-discipline & sacrifice & may involve intense study, practice of rituals, meditation etc.

There are striking similarities.. But every monistary (as every monk) is different.
