I think its their way of expressing their faith in their religion and their dedication, just as some Christians wear a cross and other religions have different cultures, so to me it doesn't really matter if they wear it or not ( as long as they have that freedom of choice)

It is an archaic form of 'tribal control' over the women in their tribe.

It was recommended centuries ago and now some fanatic obsessive male tribe members have decided to bring it back.

The gullible (or terrified) women who wear it will defend it (I know because I have been here for awhile).

I think they must be very brave to stand up for what they believe in in spite of the almost inevitable persecution they will experience.
