Well since you put this in the GLTB section, I'm going to assume you're trying to make it sound like mostly gay people are promiscuous and obsessed with sex.
But as for the question in general, people get involved in sex because they want to most of the time. It's been portrayed for years now to be a cool and fun thing to do, even at young ages. Obviously people are going to start doing it if they think everyone else is. It reminds me of high school when everyone assumed everyone else was having sex, so they all did it to not be "left out".

The media tells us to and we all want to be popular like celebrities.
Sounds dumb, it is, but it's true!
But the Romans seemed to have a lot of sex back in the day too. Perhaps it a sign of not having enough responsibilities.

The ONLY sex I get involved in is with my partner...granted, we have a pretty good sex life...but it's not like we're having multiple partners...we're monogamous.

It is an escape of anything It feels good(some people consider it excercise) and younger people feel liek they need to do it to be as good as other people others well just like it, it is an addiction just like drugs or eating so. It happens.
