The P.C. term for the third world.
Most of Africa and Asia is the developing world. (not China or India, since they are super powers, though some disagree). Rural western China is quite free from industrial developement and quite poor relative to the modern Chinese.
But honestly the whole world is developing.
It came from the use of undeveloped country (50's-80's), which would now only be considered savage wilderness with maybe a few wondering nomads. Parts of the Desert In California are undeveloped.
By 22nd century standards the WHOLE world in underdeveloped.
Or perhaps over-developed. As I think in the future emphasis will be put on minimalizing environmental impact.
Each country really is in a different stage of developement. Every country (U.S. included) has poor, starving and/or homeless people.
I've been to Bangladesh, Venezuela, and Cameroon, as well as Europe. There are strong differences, but it is "developed" in the sense of a western bias.
Are T.V. and Cell Phones really that important?
YES!!!
Imagine the time women save with a washing machine, microwave, etc. Women in rural Cameroon spend hours on daily chores.
It is these developements that lead to women being able to enter the work force and become educated. Allow seniors longer healthier lives through medicine, and allow children to be consumed in a fast pased material world.
There are pros and cons to being developed!

There no black and white response to developing world? Untied States is a developed nation according to emperical satisictics having low illteracy, motrality rates, and such. A lot of middle income countires like Mexico, Russia, China, Brazil, are similar to the Europe in the early 1950s, but most of Africa, and Asia is pre-industrail. In all, its very hard to make comparisions between developed, and developing since satisiticis like expediancy in some developing countries are similar to developed countries.

Poor countries, or 3rd world countries such as Mexico, Sudan, Ethiopia.
China was once considered a developing 3rd world country about 20 years ago but now is slated to be a world super power..i.e. developed 1st world country (like the United States).
