X-rated once meant for adult viewing only. Triple X was just a way of proclaiming something really raunchy.
Capital Xs are the rating. Small case xs are the kisses.

Before people were better educated the "X" was a warning. It could warn of danger and to the person that did not read they would stop. Then "XX" or"XXX" took on meanings of life endangerment,in some old west pictures you see booze or explosives marked XX or XXX.
Modern times gave the X rating to films and more graphic the film more X's used some films brought for home use had XXX on them as an advertising way of saying not shown at a theater.
And at last slang abbreviation hugs and kisses.

I assume you mean in movie ratings?

If so... it doesn't stand for anything... Movies used to get pretty much 3 ratings... G, PG and R. If it didn't fall into one of those categories, it woudln't get any rating at all.

Some adult film company simply avoided submitting their movies for rating, knowing they wouldn't get any sort of rating, anyway... and concocted an X Rated Movie. At some point, this simple evolved into Triple X... or XXX. The assumption was that if people alrady felt X was "this dirty!", then triple-X would be EVEN DIRTIER! It was honestly that simple.

In reality, if a movie doesn't get one of the MPAA ratings (today that's G, PG, PG13, R, and NC17), then it is Unrated. X and XXX aren't actual ratings and they don't specify a thing... although you can pretty much guess at what you'd see if you watched one.

There isn't truly an MPAA rating of "XXX." Use of the triple-X was merely for the sake marketing porn films. The distributors of those films thought that they might sell more to the people who were looking for the raunchiest films.

If you ever watch really good porn, look to the upper right corner. Every once in a while, when action gets really hot, you'll see three guys standing there, playing the xylophone. EVERY good movie has them. Its an old tradition. And there's your answer.

the x rated system is a porn rated system based on the amount of penetration seen...... x is for soft porn where they do the act but you dont see the actual penetration I dont think they even bother making xx porn anymore and triple you see inside it before it goes in and watch the skin buckle as it comes out LOL or something like that!!
