I do not consider someone answering a question of "I think I might be gay?" with an answer of "kill yourself" to be sparking debate, shaking things up, or keeping this place exciting. It is not appropriate here.

People acting like jerks isn't "fun and exciting". It's similar to a kid throwing a tantrum in the middle of a restaurant. While all of the questions here aren't of world-shaking importance, some are of a sensitive nature, people with legitimate doubts and fears and they do deserve to get the best advice a person can offer. Allowing homophobic bigots to continue to post their hatred (Against the Terms of Service) does "do harm" to those who do have insecurities and serious questions and takes away from the experience of a forum that is supposedly designed as a place for an exchange of (legitimate)information and ideas. Perhaps if you enjoy trolls and loutish behavior so much you should try venues that encourage such behavior like the "Jerry Springer Show".

Trolls do not "spark" debate when their purpose is simply to threaten, bully and intimidate others.
Trolls are abusive because they intentionally break TOS and Community Guidlines with no intent on adding anything constructive to this site, whatsoever.
Those who come on, post one or two questions which may seem derogitory is one thing, but those TROLLS who come back time and time again simply to spew hatred, abuse others, advocate violence, encourage suicide, spread blatent lies and untruths...they aren't here to "spark" anything but their own egos!
I don't mind the occassional poster who may or may not post something that might be concidered offencive.
I'm angred by those who have no regard for anyone but themselves, come back repeatedly simply to abuse this catagory only.
These are TWO COMPLETELY differnt kinds of posters.
Trolls are a completely different species of poster who simply have no place here.
Try reading the TOS rules and Community Guidlines.

Trolls usually don't spark much of anything. They tend to post outlandish statements designed to incite a chaotic response rather than anything constructive. They infrequently mess up and cause a conversation to occur but that's not their aim... at least not usually. Posting hateful comments designed to insult one particular group or another serves no constructive purpose.
I wish trolls never got banned, though. After a while, you learn who the trolls are and you can mentally filter their messages without ever reading them.

Ya but sometimes they can sound pretty hurtful.... and cruel.
When one troll posted that digusting thing about the baby, it REALLY bothered me.... no one should ever make such remarks about a infant. There have been way to many stupid people that really do that in real life. Makes me mad.

I agree with you that they don't upset me. Actually I don't even open their questions usually.
It always strikes me as odd when I see them called trolls though....for decades in the gay community troll was a derogatory name for an older gay man.

New flash: This is not a debate forum.
There are message boards for that purpose. If you have a need to debate with trolls, you'll find them there. Thats what message boards are for, debate.
I understand some respond to trolls to feel self important, and get some validation, but it wasn't a dialogue. The biggest offender was 14 year old boy in Canada. Do you really think anything you could possibly say would have gotten through to him? Are you that eaten up with yourself that you alone posess the wisdom that will get through to some silly kid with emotional issues. Do you really think he even bothered to read, much less consider your oh so lofty views?
How arrogant it is of you to feel that your need to spout off the wisdom of Ashley outweighs everyone else. And thats what its about, isn't it? Your need to feel self important against a 14 year old emotionally disturbed kid in Alberta.
Seek validation elsewhere. YA has a rather narrow focus of people asking questions and giving answers, not confronting bigots and thugs. When trolls are allowed to disrupt, and threaten to destroy this category, who then is allowed to speak? You can express your piety all you want, but perhaps you might focus your boundless wisdom to actually dealing with real questions from real people instead of trolls. Ahhhh but you don't want that, because perhaps Ashley has nothing really to contribute to real questions, that his answer will get lost in the shuffle.
But cheer up, the cyber bullies will be back, spewing their hate, threatening violence, encouraging kids to commit suicide, and you once again can share those pearls of wisdom from your lofty perch.
Get me?

I take them seriously when they start sending me threatening mail and while I'm not afraid of them...I have fought all of my life to get rid of that kind of treatment. I think that the acceptance of us has to start on every level.

No, you are incorrect, I don't exhibit anything. Every Monday we bring in the garbage and what we don't use we freeze. We take great care never to exhibit anything, so I don't know what you're talking about.
