That depends on where they went. Have your friends ever seen Goa, the North East, Kerala Backwaters!

Once you visit Goa you can never say you dont like seeing India. You will fall in love with it! For any tourist around the world my piece of advice is visit www.mapsofindia.com

Carry a map with you if you like. There are many trusted travel agents and you can book your tour with them. The Northern part of India is really bad, but come visit the South! The Govt is doing its best to help tourists. You cannot deny that there are people who will try to make a fast buck, everywhere. This used to be the scenario earlier in Goa but now the govt has introduced metered taxis, from the airports, railway stations. For those who feel that our taxi stands and airports are lined with beggars, please note that in a country where the population is above 1 billion what would be expect! Our economy is not the size of USA or UK!

Every country has its draw backs, and India's tourism industry is just getting competitive. Yet this is the only country where every single person you meet will be ready to help you and you will not actually suffer from language problems!

They surely visited the wrong places. Dont tell me USA or UK are not filled with places that stink. All five fingures are not equal similarly all places in one vast country are not equal. Ask me what to visit and I will tell u that kedarnath and badrinath r better than switzerland, and gardens of kashmir are better than any garden in USA, chandigarh is the most planned town and u wont get a city in USA equal to it, if visited the Jog falls will never b forgoton in a lifetime, the temples of of india like the Golden temple and menakshi temple stand tall, the quiteness of hill stations like masoorie, kodaikanal and dalhousie give peace to the mind of the most deadliest person, and the forts of rajsthan, have you seen any of them ? Each one is a site and the thought they were created when those modern architecture techniques the USA use now were no where in thought in the 14th and 15th centuries astonishes everyone. It will take me a life time to elaborate the vastness and greatness of india. the warmth in the heart of people of India can never be found in those so called advanced westen countries where each one is always ready to engulf the other.
How dare anyone call India unlikabe? I love my country. I dont understand how others who have answered this question could try to find reasons for dislike. They are surely not INDIANs at heart

personally i would love to visit India, but tickets are quite expensive for me so far.
My mom has been there for a year already. I have to say she wasn't happy to be back there when her first 6 month visa was over and the only reason for it was the dirt on streets and other places. But she said if you have a high income in India, you can build or rent a palace and really enjoy leaving there.

India does have some reasons to make it unlikable such as unhygienic habits, rough roads, unwanted attention from locals, and harsh weather. Inspite of this I have many friends from abroad who love India and like to visit it again.

Please note, India is a beautiful country. Since its freedom from 1947, it has been progressing well and improving everyday. Nowhere in the world will you find such friendly people. India has diverse culture and art, each state has its own language and lifestyle.

Filth, pollution and almost everyone here is a Vampire. I call it a Nation of Beggars and Bums and the Rich are the worst. I am an retired American living here off and on for 32 years. I have only meet four honest people in that 32 years. I have been everywhere here.

Beggers all around...(they are disgusting and stinky and they lie around the train stations, roads...etc)
Too Filthy...(you actually got to walk on your tippy toes...like i regreted wearing new shoes when i visited India)
The Smell...
Cheaters all around (there is such thing like the entrance fee to go in Taj Mahal for the locals is like 2 rupees and for the tourists is like 750 rupees...that never happens in other coutries...and taxi drivers who actually cheat the tourist)

So that are all the things that makes India unlikable to visit

i guess it depends on individuals. some parts of india can be quite dusty (the air quality may not be very good) and disorganised in terms of infrastructure. if you're from a city, you may find it hard to acclimatize. but if you're one who loves to explore the world, you'll find it a very interesting place. i've been to sikkim, a state in the northern part of india. it's a nice place rich in culture :) i suggest you visit india once yourself first to judge whether you wanna visit the place again.

Friend, I understand your problem. Yes I agree that some places in India are not worth visiting due to overpopulation, crowd, pollution, crimes etc., but where don't u find such things? Still there are some beautiful places like Shimla, Manali, Goa, Mussorie, Darjeeling etc. Please ask your friends to visit these places and u will find a change in their response...Trust me!!!
