i know the book was better but the movie gave me a better understanding about how characters looked like, dragon, and the shade's power stuff. I dont regret paying $7 for the movie. i really enjoyed the movie. I really glad they made the movie.

Bah! I saw that movie today! BIG disappointment after such good books. Very little story line, poor acting, total disregard for the actual story! Some bits were so bad though, it was laughable. My friend and I (both of us have read the books and liked them) were in hysterics at some sections. The movie consisted mostly of epic music while Eragon and (insert appropriate companion here) rode horses over beautiful landscapes.
One thing I did like though was Saphira when she was a baby. She was so cute!! With those big blue eyes.... Awwww..... Great animation on her.
Ok, I guess I've been harsh but the books were infinitely better (as the trend tends to go when books are made into movies...)
I was expecting much better, the movie had the things it needed to be great (imaginative storyline, good cast etc.) but it never reached it's full potential.

Movies are usually worse than the books, and so thay can be disappointing if you have already read the books. However, reading the books first gives one a deeper understanding of the movie, and allows one to imagine the storyline in their own way, before being influenced by Hollywood's interpretation.
Of course, the movie Eragon was not as good as the book, and no where near as good as Lord of the Rings, but that was to be expected. LOTR was a brilliant series, the outcome of years of dedication and labour. JRR Tolkien, an obsessive literary genius, cannot be compared to Paolini. I liked Eragon and Eldest a lot, but they were of a different quality than LOTR. Paolini's books have many parallels to Tolkiens, he did not dream up his world as completely as Tolkien did. The movie cannot be expected to be as grand as The Lord of the Rings were, simply because the books don't even compare.
I admit, the movie was entertaining, though slightly cheap, but it was not as riveting, as beautiful, as LOTR was. LOTR is a classic, and the awards the Return of the King recieved backs that up. Eragon won't do as well in the awards, it dosen't have a chance. Eragon I read for entertainment, LOTR because it is a passion. They aren't on the same level. If it weren't for Paolini's parents, he wouldn't be where he is today. If it weren't for Tolkien, he wouldn't be where he is today. The parallels are obvious, I mean, Aragorn-Eragon, Arwen-Arya? They are cute books, but from cute books you can't expect epic films.

The book was great and so was the movie. of course, the book was a really great read but the movie was a great failure and a great disappointment.
*SPOILER*
I was a great fan of eragon the book. I had been so excited when got the tickets but i was really disappointed with the movie. I think they should have made two movies of the first book so that they would be able to show more of the story. Arya is too friendly and Saphira too mysterious they should swap places. and the movie didn't give any reasons why eragon had to cry when brom died.
And Brom didn't show his greatness or wisdom in the movie and saphira came out of the egg knowing her name. I laughed my head off when the shade muttered the spell he was so funny and he wasn't the least bit frightening. The movie was just not what i had expected, in a bad way of course.

What i found so dissapointing about the movie is how different it was from the book. I know that the movie cant adapt all the material from a book or it would be absurdly long, however they changed so many things without reason. the story in the movie i thoguht was fundamentally different from the book. It seems that all the changes were made to create more drama, make it more actioned filled and to give it more special effects. I think it made it a mindless action film where as the books have much more heart.

The movies rarely capture the essence of their book. I have neither seen or read Eragon but given a choice I would always opt for the book - as it at least captures more of the senses, weaves into it the underlying tones and emotions, leaves more for the visual imagination and gives you a sense of achievement when you've read it! Plus a finished book makes better bedding for your pet hamster than any DVD would.

No, always read the the book first. When you read your imagination paints the picture and is able to explore the possibilities. Once you watch a film your mind is exposed to the producers interpretation which means if you read a book after the film your mind will be filled with the images that were fed to it, if you know what I mean......

possibly no longer :- "Eragon grossed approximately $seventy 5 million interior the U. S. and $173.9 million someplace else, totalling $249 million international.[22] movies ought to gross type of two times their production and distribution expenditures to interrupt even:[23] Eragon, which had a production budget of $one hundred million and distribution expenditures of an expected $30 million,[24] did no longer attain this threshold."

my son's went to watch this
they had both read the book
they were VERY disappointed....saying the film veered away from the film..and there was a lot of "artistic licence" used
Have been told it's better if you haven't read the book
BUT..both my son's said that they hoped it would be done in the same "style" as Lord of the Rings trilogy...however..it wasn't and they felt it was VERY disappointing

I don't know, I was going to see it last week but I ran out of time. The dragon looks cute, but I think the author's parents gave the book too much publicity. I like Chronicles of Narnia better.
