South Africa is the best choice. It's a great and modern country, even though it is getting unsafer by the day. Yet, most African countries are worse.

Best time to travel to Africa would be in the summer (October-February) If you visit South Africa, first go to SUN CITY: game-drives, hot-air balloon rides over the game-reserve, party at the Valley Of Waves, play golf and enjoy yourself in with skiing and watersports at Waterworld. Then to CAPE TOWN: visit La Med at Clifton Beach, go up Table Mountain, the V&A Aquarium, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Ratanga Junction Entertainment Park and Cape Point. Last but not least STELLENBOSCH: go wine-touring and wine-tasting in this stunning town! Fruit Cake Lady is talking sh*t. You'll love it here.

You want to be very careful traveling to SA, the crimes that are going on there are horrendous. People are getting mugged, robbed, and killed at the airports on a daily bases. This is for Johannesburg, and even the Cape areas. They are even burning farms and business' to the ground and killing the owners. I have a friend who has been robbed several times at gun point, both at home and at his business. One time the robber pulled the trigger but the gun jammed. I would rather go to the northern part, I am sure it would be much much safer. If you still insist on going, The Cape is beautiful, most of SA is. Northeast of Johannesburg is Kruger Park, and it is a very nice place to stay. They have tours there for visitors to take to see the animals in the wild.

If you want to really visit africa for the history and all don't go to the most common countries because they do not really show the true africa. You should try these cities: Timbuktu, Bamako, Dakar, Accra, Lagos or Euratria or Cape Verde

One of my friends went to Peace Corps, but she also traveled in Africa after she was done. As I recall, she really liked Cape Town, South Africa. She also mentioned Ghana and Zambia. Her drum from Ghana is also amazing! If you get a chance, you should take some drumming lessons, so you can justify buying a drum.

first is good to visit africa country as you wnt to, but it now depending on how you want to spend your vacation.
but if i wanted to say there are many hundred of cities you may visit to spend your vacation, talk of cultures, languages, and tourism place that you can visit for remembrance.

like nigeria there are many places here you can spend your vacation, such as Obudu Cattle Ranch, the atmoshphere is splended, because it always cool there, and Ikogosi warm water (this place you will see where hot and cold water joined together)

so many things you can enjoy with diversity of cultures from east to west from north to south.
