what are the best songs?

What a question!

There can be NO best songs or, more accurately, there are THOUSANDS of best songs.

I have many favourites (English spelling here) but it is unlikely that they would be the same songs you would choose. Music and its appreciation varies widely around the world.

To western ears the music of Arab countries, for instance, sounds discordant and strange. No doubt some of our music sounds that way to them. But is one better than the other? That is up to the person listening.

Of course, in many styles of music there are standards that are generally agreed upon which set 'bench mark' parameters of excellence. However much one may like, say 'punk' music of the 1970's, even the most hardened afficionado would hardly claim it to be 'better' than, say, Beethoven, etc.

As with so any things, such as flavour, beauty, and so on there is no universal standard to compare, so the final 'best song' is the one that you (or me) choose as our favourite.

Enjoy life.
