I'm a horror writer and I had an assignment in college to better understand one word it is good to understand the opposite. Or it could be fear. The thesarus I have said calmness, courage, equanimity. I don't find that cheap book adequate. Interested in guesses too.

comfort would be the most exact opposite .

terror is intentional intimidation

comfort is reassuring and calming .

terror is a state of severe anxiety .
comfort is a state of satisfaction .

also they are both rather common words , because it wouldn't be suitable to use a word like (acquiesce ) anymore than it is suitable to use (consternation) etc.
