it really is just a graphics file -- is because Microsoft is afraid you'll
change it to read something like "Welcome to Windoze 95 -- Breakfast of
Lusers!" So by making it a read-only file, and hiding it, and calling it a
system file as if it were something so darn important it would destroy your
computer if you were to mess with it, Microsoft is trying to trick you into
leaving it alone.

It's backup bootup screens are in a file names Io.sys! *Sigh*, |\|0 |\|0|\| |-|AX0|2 DUD3 \/\/111 G37 17!

First of all i would not recommend doing that just because you could wreck your PC. Here's the steps:

modify your boot.ini as follows.

/BOOTLOGO
Use this switch to have Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 display an installable splash screen instead of the standard splash screen. First, create a 16-color (any 16 colors) 640x480 bitmap and save it in the Windows directory with the name Boot.bmp. Then add "/bootlogo /noguiboot" to the boot.ini selection.
