This time of year always feels a little melancholy... Why do you think that is? Is it the commercialism which stifles the real meaning of the holiday? Is it the buildup (and inevitable letdown) of the holiday? Is it because it's the end of the year & causes you to reflect on your life? Is it because unless your life looks like a Hallmark card it feels like you don't measure up...? Is it seasonal affective disorder? Is it the sense of isolation and loneliness that you feel even when surrounded by friends & family? Is it the stress of shopping, spending money you can't afford on gifts that they may not want, planning, preparing, the hustle & bustle that takes the fun out of it because you can't relax & enjoy it? Crowded malls and overplayed Christmas songs? Difficult relatives? Missing loved ones who are gone?

What happened to Christmas? Remember when it was magical? Is it because we grew up...?

Is it because I have to work Christmas day?!

Merry Christmas, anyway!

Hi Amp
It's you who's blue, not neccessarily Christmas.
Why! all the reasons you listed above are true, but don't let it get to you.
Think of the magic of Christmas that you have ticked away somewhere inside & I'm sure you will taste it again. Go & have fun with yr friends, speak to a loved one that's not been around for a while, talk to a child at the Mall , listen to yr fave music -- am sure you'll find the multi-hued Christmas you love .
And don't forget the NEW YEAR ahead with the whole new set of possibilities.
Merry Christam & a Happy New Year to you. Thanks

HAHA, my husband and I were just talking about how when we were young how much we loved christmas and how magical it felt. Now it's like a giant, busy, stressful, EXPENSIVe bill, that drives us all insane. I guess it's worth it for the few moments on christmas morning with the kids and the family!

I think it's because we grew up. And also because I have to work on Christmas day, and it's not the firts time I have to work on Christmas day. Also because I don't even have the time or desire to decorate my place for it.

Christ should be the focus of Christmas. That will make all the blue Christmas feelings go away.

because you've grown up, that's why you feel the "blue(s)". children would probably describe christmas as a rainbow of colors.

and yeah, because you have to work that day (bummer!) :(

have a good one, still!
