I was helping a friend pick up a pool table when all the sudden my middle finger is filled with a sharp pain, it has been like this for the past 2 hours. I can move it just fine but the slightest pressure causes me to cringe in pain. What the hell is wrong with it? Did I pull something in my finger when I was picking up the pool table? Should I go to the emergency room or is this just a minor injury?

If you can move it through full range and it is still strong when bending (even if painful), than you have not ruptured or avulsed a tendon, in which case the ER wouldn't do anything for you accept tell you to ice it and give you meds. If on the other hand, your movement is severely limited and the finger is considerably weak and painful when you apply resistance to bending, or if you feel any obvious bumps along the palm under the finger or in the palm side of the finger, better go see an MD. Walk in clinics will be able to manage this problem well enough. Leave the ER for the really serious emergencies.

You could of broken you finger, if you can not move it. Sometimes a person can get it in the right place where it will brake. Yes i would go to the ER and have them check it out, cause if it is broken they can put it back into place now, instead of haveing to rebrake it, to set it. Then again, it might jus tbe a minor injury. But to be on the safe side, go to the ER.

Definantly seems like a minor injury. You probably just pinched a nerve in your middle finger I've done the same thing but in my pinkie finger.

It all depends on how painful it is and if it is swollen.
Hopefully you jammed your finger and it will heal. Use Ice now.
