1) They aren't as expandable/upgradeable, and if a part fails you may be stuck having to send it back to the manufacturer. With desktops, local computer stores have almost any component that might need replacing.
2) The built-in video on most laptops isn't good enough for gaming
3) Since they are carried around, they take a lot more bumps/jolts and have problems from that (more frequent drive failure)
4) They cost more
5) They are more likely to be accidentally left somewhere and lost or stolen

Upgradation is always a problem... Apart from cost, you may never be able to upgrade certain parts cuz of the laptop chassis and it doesnt really allow more expansion or upgrades... U have to make sure u are getting the right one... If you need a powerfull system rather than an ultra portable and when u bought it, if u needed just a system to check mails and hence bought a basic model, then u are in problem...

The biggest problem I have is expansion slots. With a desktop there are many configurations available .Not so with laptops, and the parts are much more expensive and difficult to install.

Because they are so compact, they have a tendency to overheat. Never put a laptop on your thighs, you can toast your skin permanently.

*Laptops usually don't have as much power as desktops and are a lot harder/more expensive to upgrade.
*You have to worry about the battery and making sure it's charged. *The keypads are bad for your wrists and the mouse pads suck to use.
*Smaller screen makes it harder to see.

Dropping it.
Most people don't walk around with their desk top so dropping it is never a concern.
