In 'The Simple Life' starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie they looked like complete airheads. The premiere episode drew 13 million viewers, increasing Fox's Adults 18-49 rating a phenomenal 79%. Dumb obviously sells! The second episode drew 13.3 million viewers, an increase of 200,000 viewers over its premiere. During the airing of the series, Fox added two extra episodes and a reunion special, which continued to draw ratings. With results like this, it was only natural that Fox would order a second season.
Google has now reported that the most googled term in 2007 was 'Paris Hilton' believe it or not. She even has her own music now!

The YouTube website is going off and people just can't seem to get enough of this talentless Bimbo. So is she a self marketing genius or just a braindead blonde? I reckon anyone idiotic enough to put a metal cooking pot in a microwave is certainly ignorant, but I'm uncertain as to whether or not she is acting.

I think she really is that dumb. She's never had to do anything for herself a day in her life. How can you learn without experience? And it wasn't her talent that got her that record deal, it was her fame and wealth.

Paris Hilton has intelligence. It takes a brain to play the role she has chosen. If you take the statistics above, she sells. She has no need to work. The stipend she receives for being born Paris Hilton, (money in trust accounts) is probably more in one day than that earned by all that answered your question in a year.
She can do whatever she wants without the additional cash she earns as the marketing genius you called her above. No one can make that kind of money and be a brain dead blond.
Goldie Hawn is an actress who played a brain dead blond bimbo on "Saturday Night Live". She played her role so well, people believed she could not have more than two working brain cells.
It is much easier to play smart than be smart. It is very difficult to play stupid well. I am not sure how old you are but sooner or later you will discover it is very difficult to consistently play stupid than it is to play intelligent and wise.

Using the criteria of success then the facts support that she's smart. Paris is a actress (movies and TV), a singer with a CD that has good sales, may even have clothing & perfume lines, she's been a model and done advertising campaigns for various products. True she smartly keeps her name in the media but that's the nature of the business she's in - the opportunities go to those who names currently have promotional value. Also consider this, the night paparazzi caught Paris, Britney and Lindsey together in a car that night - who's car was it and who was driving? It was Hilton starring in the dominant role and the other's were passenger's in her $485,000 custom Mercedes SLR. Another thing, Paris is smart enough to have very good relationships with the paparazzi and always has the time to let them get their pictures - they use her and she cleverly uses them. Hilton is far from dumb but is a tough savvy businesswoman.

It's kinda like asking if Jessica Simpson is really as dim-witted as she wants the public to believe she is.
Here's my answer to your question: Why would anyone deliberately attempt to give people the impression that they're an idiot? There's no way that Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson or Goldie Hawn could keep up such an act and continue to think that people would actually respect them. In other words, there's no way that she could be pretending to be dumb--heck, that in and of itself is dumb.
But I feel sorry for her parents because she's set to inherit quite a fortune, but I'm sure they worry that she'll squander it all for a Six Dollar burger at Carl's Jr.

I do not think she is dumb, exactly, I think she might be ignorant because life has been handed to her on a silver platter her entire life. This is the fault of the parents, and the media, who only portray her as she is on the outside and not on the inside-perhaps she is afraid to show people who she really is, and people won't like her anymore. I have noticed that really smart people often do not get the same response as beautiful people who are also "airheads."

Apparently she is smart enough to have understood how to make more money than her family in less time. She is just using other people's dumbness to make herself interesting and cash drawing...Because frankly the real dumb ones are the guys and gals who watch her shows, read the magazines she is in or buy her records....

She really is dumb. NBC dateline played clip of Hilton interview when she was witness to some criminal/kidnap case. She talked like friggin 12 year old actually saying stuff like '...I'm like, I'm like like not that smart... I forget all the time and I'm not smart...'
She was very incoherent almost like she was drunk talking to cops.
