Let some of the fluid leak and get something - panties or a mini-pad - wet. Take a blow dryer and dry the panties or pad. If it is urine it will smell like dried urine. If it's not - then it won't! (Midwife trick!)
Some women have a whole lot of clear discharge near their due date. It is very watery and has no odor. The only real way to distinguish this from amniotic fluid is to either visualize your cervix and see if fluid is coming from it, or if there is fluid near the cervix, test the pH or for ferning. This isn't something you can do yourself though. If the leaking stops - don't worry about it. If it is not urine and you continue to leak call your doctor or midwife.

If you are past 36 weeks and are "leaking" it could be a hind leak in the water bag. Usually when the baby moves you will feel a trickle. If it has an ammonia smell it is most likely urine. The amniotic fluid should be clear ( not red, green or brown) if it is you need to call your provider asap. IF you are having contractions and you leak with one it is most likely your bag. I cannot be too specific because I do not know all your circumstances but if you suspect your bag may be broken you need to call your provider and get checked. They will give you an exam and check the fluid on a pH strip. It is important as well to know especially if you are Group B positive. Please call your provider.

I was curious about that too with my first. If you have small leakage and it isnt gushing then your water is probably about to break. When it does, it feels warm and like you are peeing yourself, and it doesnt stop. It starts with a sudden gush followed by a steady flow.
It also has a smell. If it has a slight sweet smell, it could be the fluid.
I went to the hospital a few times thinking that it was my water, and they can do a quick test to see if it is. They put a test strip there and it changes color if it is. I would recommend going if you have a steady flow, similar as if you were urinating.

Does it have an odor or smell? Usually your "water" is clear and odorless. If you see green or dark brown when you leak go to the hosp NOW. You can always go to the OB and get it checked. It's very simple. They will do a vag check with a strip and tell you right then.

Go to the hospital. If your water has broken, they will have to admit you and induce if labor has not started in 24 hrs. If you walk around w/ broken bag and no plug you have a chance of getting an infection.

If your water breaks, it's seldom just a "leak" - it's more like a gush. If in doubt, go to the emergency room - they would very much prefer that you came in needlessly that for you to fail to come in when you SHOULD.

Assuming you are pregnant...your water breaking is pretty quite different than urine leakage.
It varies. Some experience a gush, whereas, others a continuous drizzle. If you're just about due, contact your doctor A.S.A.P

The smell. Urine smells like ammonia. Amniotic fluid doesn't really have a smell.

You really should see a doctor. In your condition - you should work on assumptions... which someone else say NOT waterbag liquid, can be different for you.
