My idiot friend is under the impression that the punk band A.F.I. is more of an emo type band. I disagree. Any thoughts?

I disagree, too. But some people do class them as 'emo'. A lot of people class Taking Back Sunday as emo as well, and if you know the band you will know that giving them the emo tag is laughable.
I wouldn't worry about it. You like what you like. Who cares what other people think?

Well... I don't classify them as PUNK exactly... I'm not a big AFI fan, and I have this tendency to lump bands that I don't like together under the phrase "emo". To me, they sound emo. But I'll call them alt rock if you'd rather.

They call themselves punk, at least Jade does. But their extent of wussiness and whining beats any emo basnd on any day, that guy's singing sounds like an insulted 10-year old girl. So, yes, they're emo because they can't help it - when the singing sissy gets the trans-gender operation, they'll be a great girl band.

Emo? No way. AFI has been around for a long time and if you listen to their earlier albums they are far from emo, they are PUNK

Looking at the way they dress the are 100% emo, but the songs I've heard don't really seem to be emo. So I don't really know.

Ya, I saw the lead singer in the Miss Murder video. He has that lil flippy hair thing, and it did have A emo tune to it. I would say yea, they are pretty emo.I dont really like emo music but its still a pretty nice song. :)
