You can use a free security suite that will protect you from all Internet risks, the AOL Safety Center. No need to pay for it:

Sounds suspiciously like their network is poor - unless of course it happens a particular length of time after to boot up, like, does it go down after 3 hours for instance?

Personally, I'd go for it being Telewest's problem. Consider a new ISP.

You can get excellent free a/v downloads - try AVG or Avast! While you're at it, take the free AdAware SE personal for an excellent anti-adware program and free Spybot Search & Destroy for anti-spyware. Jsut search for them online.

Good Luck!

go through citizens advice, they are more used to dealing with difficult organizations.
In the meantime d/l avg free anti virus and keep spybot and adaware up to date.
Oh and make sure that you have already complained in writing.

I remember also sometimes with cable services they do repairs at night mainly, which is why it works in the daytime.
