Proper or not, it was incredibly tacky. Maybe they didn't realize their error and just wanted you to share in their good fortune.

She probably didn't mean to rub your face in it, she was probably just excited and happy. Next time, maybe you can say something like "Oh really, well can I borrow $100.00?"....that'll make her think twice about being so quick to tell people how much money her husband makes in light of other peoples financial diffuculties....

Yes it was. the keyword here is friend... even though you are having difficulties.. You should be happy for your friend.. as long as she was just telling you because she was happy.. and not in a tone, as though she was rubbing salt in the wound

Sure it was ok to speak about it. BUT, I think it was highly insensitive, rude, bragging, and just down right ignorant. BUT, maybe she really didn't think before she spoke.
