Well, it would probably just be a good idea to do a complete wipe of the system.
Your system should have come with a set of Restore or Installation discs. It's different for every system. Some come with completely customized installers, some use the standard Windows installation interface. I can't really help you there without knowing what's on the screen but they are moderately intuitive. You can look around and post questions if you run problems.
Before you do this, you should also back-up any data that you want, as it will be deleted.
If you want to see if you can get your system back to normal as it is:
It sounds that the virus warning, if not under your original virus protection program, is some sort of adware, and something else might be blocking you from the internet. Do you use a high speed connection? Try booting Windows in safe mode (F8 as your computer is booting up. It's a bit of a trick to get it exactly at the right time. I just kind of tap F8 a bunch of times and that usually does the trick.) and see if you can get on the internet. Then, try running your Adware, Spyware, and Virus detection programs.
After that, without physically seeing the computer, I can't really tell you what to do.
Hope this helps!

I don't think you need to delete everything just yet. a virus can make your PC act wierd. Formatting and deleting everything WOULD work, but i think that would be overkill at this point. I would suggest you get an antivirus/firewall program. I use Norton Internet security. It's a virus scanner and a firewall. A firewall acts like a doorguard. Anything not cool doesn't get in. Buy the program, install it. Turn back on your internet connection, download all the updates and scan the heck out of your pc. The antivirus program will find all the infected programs and delete them. If there are some that it can't remove, you'll have to reboot in safe mode and run the virus scan again. after you get a report that all the infected files are gone, I would go to lavasoft.com and download ad-aware. Then do a complete system cleanup. Cookie/Temp files should be deleted and a scandisk/defrag should be performed. After you do all this, your pc should run like a champ.

I suggest that you first try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html The problem will be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
After running the virus scan delete all temprory internet files including off line content and also unwanted files and temp. files. Finally, carryout a defragmentation . Your system will be back to the normal...!

Your computer should have come with a manual and system restore discs.
If you misplaced them, sometimes the computer manufactuerer has the system restore on ap artition of your harddrive. read your manual on how to do the restore.
Make sure you back up everything as you will lose everything. It will return the computer back to factory settings. Dont forget, UPDATE all your files when you've done the restore and update your OS. Make sure you have a good antivirus program to install prior to getting on the net.

Re-format it. Put in the Windows CD and reformat. You should save all of the files you really need onto cds though before. Doing this will completely wipe everything off of your computer. Once windows is installed again it'll be like new!

you would loose everything you have on it but you could reformat your harddrive then reinstall the software that came with your computer. If you had something you wanted to save special you could get a thumbdrive that goes in usb port and save to that. for example pictures or documents you don't want to loose before reformatting your hard drive.
