I'm 40 and a mother, this is what I would like... Coach purse, wristlet, or small coin purse, make-up (bareMinerals, MAC), philosophy lotions, measuring spoons and cups (we're always missing one), pedicure gift card, pepper grinder, nice weighted wire whisk, cook books, movie gift cards, restaurant gift cards, Cd's, flannel PJ pants, UGG boots and slippers, costume jewelry.

Well a 40 year old mother, loves anything she gets from her childern, or grandchild. We actully like new clothing, or music, or what ever she may be into as a hobbie. Sometimes just the most simple thing can make a mother happy. I don't think that she really cares what you get her, it is the thought that counts.

depends on what she is interested in. Age aside, my mom turned 60 a few weeks ago. She wanted a cast iron grill pan, I bought her that from myself, my hubby and our son, my sister is paying off my mom's account with the mechanic for Christmas this year.

40 isn't old sweetie!
I bet she would like for you to make her something that you thought of and then created just for her.
Or have a Day of Fun with her, just the two of you at a spa or doing anything that you both like.
