Diagonal... then I smell it and add pepper. I'm really not sure why.

When making kids' sandwiches- cut down the middle.
When making mine- depends on the type of sandwich! If it's with meat or lettuce or tuna, I go diagonal. If it's anything else (like cheese or peanut butter) I cut it in half.
I wrote way too much about that.
