Nicorette gum, lozenges, or nicotine patches may help you over the rough spots but to quit you have to quit. For some help go to http://www.quitnet.com/ for ideas and support.

I think the easiest really is cold turkey. You can first try to cut back and then quit completely. That's what I did the two times I quit. I found the gum, lozenges, etc. didn't really work for me. My boyfriend tried them as will (in addition to chew...yuck!), but found that quitting cold turkey was easiest.

Also, something I found that helps, is to stay away from smokers. At least a first. My boyfriend and I quit together, and that make it a lot easier. I know it can be difficult when all your friends or family smoke, but maybe, you can ask them to do it outside or away from you and not announce when they're going out for a smoke or leave their cigarettes lying around. That helped me a lot.

Try to work out also. It will help you not gain weight and also discourage smoking cause working out hurts when you smoke!

Try not to give in to the temptation to smoke again! Even after not smoking for a while, I still get the urge to smoke when I'm stressed or after a big meal for example. Good luck! I know how hard it is, but it's not impossible!

Headaches are part of the withdrawal from nicotine or any drig addiction.

After 3 days without a cigarette, the nicotine is out of your system. After that it's the memory of the habit that you have to train yourself to ignore.

It is not easy. Been there, done that... But it can be done. Other people do it and you can too!

I have had part of my throat cut out due to cancer. Believe me as bad as that it, it could have been a lot worse with lung cancer. As it is I have emphysema which means I will probably die suffocating from a fluid buildup in my lungs if a heart attack from years of smoking doesn't take me first. I wish with all my heart I could turn back time and never have started smoking.

Be strong. You can do it. I am pulling for you. Go to the link below and on the left hand side you will see a menu that you can click on for help on quitting. Just do it!

I smoked for 20 or so years. First I had the urge to quit smoking. You have to get through the withdraw stage. It was like smoking was a mental crutch for worrying with me so I had to mentally deal with that. Another thing that helped was exercises. I run every now and then but riding a bike is better personally for me. Put on the iPod and start a good brisk pace. Look into some sort of exercise maybe running is good for you and bikes are not or tennis is... I feel I am in more control of myself and it was worth quiting. People smoke in front of me and it doesn't effect me at all... Good Luck...

Well, there comes a time in every smokers life where you realize you're not gonna have a life if you keep smoking. I quite cold turkey and yeah it makes you a little bit of an asshole sometimes but its worth it. Also if you are scared to "waste" money on those treatments, dont be, you are wasting more money by buying smokes. Good luck quitting, you're gonna need it.

my grandparents quit after my Grandpa had a tumor removed around his bladder. Scared them so much they had to quit. They used lighter and lighter cigarettes from thier doctor and eventually quit and have never smoked since. Hyptonism and laser is a waste of time and it only takes your strength to quit. Try walking or exercising. Start a hobby. Dying from cancer is one of the worst ways to go out.

You are addicted to the nicotine. I just recently decided to quit because of another illness I was diagnosed with. But if I hadn't been a smoker, which makes the immune system weak, I may never have developed other ailments or my body might have been strong enough to fight off infection if I had never smoked. It sucks to know it because I wasnt planning on quitting smoking, but I also never planned on my weak immune system to let disease infect me either. Good luck in your choice to smoke or not.

You have to REALLY want to! First thing is to identify when you want to smoke...after a meal, at night watching TV. Then figure out another healthier habit to replace smoking at that time. Maybe a cup of tea after dinner, do cross stitch at night watching TV, etc. The nicotine gets out of your system relatively quickly, its the habit that is harder to break. My husband used the patch and that worked well for him. For me, I quit the day I found out I was pregnant. Good luck. Its tough, but its worth it.

I'm sorry as this may be a terribly stupid experiment, but have you tried gradually slowing down, ie slowing down to 3 cigarettes per day for a month, then 2 for two months, then 1 for three months, and then 1 every other day for a month, then one 3 days of the week, then one two days of each week, then one each week, then one every other week, then one every third week..

I'm thinking you'd get some substantial results.

Start by throwing away all your matches and lighters, then start chewing on the cigarettes instead of smoking them. Start using those patches they have. When you have an urge to chew a cigarette, suck on a peppermint. But talk to your doctor to get some professional advice.
