The manufacturers often suggest you ground yourself before handling delicate electronics. This is to protect the electronics from static discharge.

Any large metallic object can be used to discharge the static electricity from your body (For example a metal desk).

Whenever you touch a doorknob and you get shocked, you've just grounded yourself. I usually do it by touching the screw on the wallplate of the nearest electrical socket. Of course, it can't be painted over...

You can use a wrist strap, or simply touch the case with your hand before touching electronic hardware.
