Do your Cardio exercise to the beat of music and I GUARANTEE you will go for much longer ( might not even want to stop!).

Put on a CD or MP3 player and headphones on you and your favorite dance/fast tunes and listen to them while you work out. You will be amazed how motivating it is.
Otherwise, set yourself a target of 10 mins one day and then increase it by 5 mins each time until you reach 20-30 mins, then keep it that way regularly.

Well, I was in a similar spot sometime ago, and didn't really know what to expect. What really helped me through was going to a 1/4 mile track (like most schools have), and I'd jog 1/4 mile, walk 1/4 mile, jog 1/4 mile, walk 1/4 mile, and left it at that. After a couple days of that (run one day on, one day off is what I did), I moved it to jogging 1/2 mile, walk 1/4, jog 1/4, walk 1/4, and so on.

What really surprised me about this is that after just a couple weeks, jogging even 1/2 mile really wasn't that big of a deal at all. What I think is extremely important though is getting decent running shoes (that fit your feet, price or cool factor are useless, just a comfortable fit), and stretching. If your muscles give out before your cardio does, you'll not be improving anything.

Just don't be afraid to push yourself harder than you think you can. I remember a while after this a friend and I wound up getting in a sprinting match, and both sprinted close to half a mile. I was just about to vomit and was all messed up for a good 2 hours, but in the end, I know it was worth it.

Don't rush... These things take time. Exercise 20 mins a day doing something that brings your pulse rate up... walking, swimming etc. If you try to overdo it you will only hurt yourself.

Don't start by running. And give yourself permission to take a while.

Even doing a little bit every day will increase your endurance, just don't expect to be able to run the Boston Marathon in a month's time.

Oh, and if you are a smoker, quit.
