Is it normal to be this early in the pregnancy and showing this much? People are actually able to point it out when they see us out and about. This is her first pregnancy and it seems that with most girls showing this early it is their 2nd or 3rd, etc etc. She is very petite, 5'5", 125 lbs. Could it be that she is actually further along even though that last month she did have her regular period? (We have heard that it is possible to be pregnant and still have your period, is this true/common/etc?)

Just to let you know, I was showing with pregnancy #1 at 5 weeks and needed to wear maternity clothes. Everyone was extremely shocked, including myself. The doctor told me that everyone carries differently. I was measuring at the correct number of weeks for how far along I thought I was. My OB said that I had a lot of amniotic fluid. I thought that I was going to have the world's largest baby, it made me really nervous.

Another thing to is we are again pregnant with #2 and I am not as big as #! but I am showing! Everybody is different, There is really no wrong or right way. Congratulations and I wish the two of you much luck.

I have never heard of anyone showing at 5 weeks!!! She could be much farther along than what you think. It is possible to bleed some in early pregnancy. I would take her to have an ultrasound done. If she's farther along than 5 weeks they will be able to tell you by measuring the baby. If she were just 5 weeks they probably wouldn't be able to see anything but a bean shaped thing. When I was 8-9 weeks I had a vaginal ultrasound and that's what they saw, was this little tiny bean shaped thing. Hope that things turn out well for you and her!!!

At 5 weeks her uterus will have hardly grown. In fact, the uterus does not rise above the pelvic bone until around 12 weeks gestation. It is highly unlikley that she would be showing her pregnancy at 5 weeks.

While it is not unheard of to have a normal cycle while pregnant, it is rare. She could be farther along, but I would be concerned that she may have a uterine or ovarian cyst (normally benign)

She could also just be experiencing some bloating and water retention, which is giving her a more pregnant apperiance. She defiantly needs to go into her doctor for blood work and an ultrasound. I doubt it is anything serious, but if she is farther along then you need to know so she can stay on track with her prenatal care. Congratulations!

It might not be the baby... constipation is very common in pregnancy and cause a "bump" like when you are further along... you usually do show sooner with 2nd & 3rd pregnancy but you are right about maybe being further along. At her prenatal appointment, they will feel her uterus from the outside and be able to tell if she is further along. If they are unable to go off her last period, they will do an ultrasound to be sure of how far along she is... Congratulations!!

Wow she must be further along than 5 weeks, has she seen her OB yet? I am 5'6 100 pounds and have never (3 pregnancies) shown until at least 20 weeks and that is not noticable to a friend! Even twims could not cause this that early! If she has not been seen by her OB yet tell her to get in ASAP & let them know that she questions her Due date according to LMP.

Really at that stage, it's probably bowels. Is she constipated, has she changed her diet? Loose stomach muscles? At 8 weeks the baby is 0.63 inch long and weighs 0.04 ounce, so imagine how tiny the little bean is at 5 weeks? Also, you may want an ultrasound to reevaulate things. If she's really showing, she's much further along!

I personal think she maybe farther along then you both know. I was a small person too 5'2 and about 42kgs (which I think is 90lb) having my first child and I didn't show until 7mths. But every woman is different and you never can tell. I would be going to the doctors and getting everything checked out. She could be carrying twins...... Good Luck and Congratulations!!!

Hmmm...She could definately be further along. Some women have a period early in pregnancy. It could also be that she is expecting multiples. Also she might be excited and in a hurry to show and therefore relaxing her stomach muscles to let her belly poof out or is push her belly out.
Congrats!

she could be further along, a sonogram/ultrasound could "age" the baby fairly accurately-she could have still had her period and been preggers, not that uncommon and finally based on her size she could simply have no where for the pregnancy to go except out...at 5'8 and 160 I showed with my first at 6months and my second at six weeks, go figure... oops or she could be carrying twins

you can have your period for up to 6 months and not know your pregnant...it is not norml for her to be showing this early she must be more pregnant then you two think...the doctor should be able to tell but your most accurate information on how far along she is will come from the sonigram
