Some of my friends say family is the people you live with, your immediate family. They think of their immediate family when one says "family." When I think of family, everyone I know comes to mind: my wife, my kids, my parents, my siblings, their kids, my in-laws, my cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and their kids.
I grew up with a large family, so everyone comes to mind.

WHEN I SAY "FAMILY," WHOM DO YOU THINK OF?

I consider almost everyone I'm close to, like you. I think of my dad, my kids, grandkids, in-laws, brothers, nephews, neices, cousins and their kids...everyone.
I live with my daughter, her child, my nephew, my dad, and my brother lives in the back house. My son lives next door, and my friends have married into my family or their children have, and even if they haven't, I still think of them when you say "family."

I'm with you...family is the whole kit and caboodle. You must be European? I know it's the European way to be tight always...and even paesani's (close friends) are considered family.

I think those you love and trust are family too. The more history you have together the more intertwined your lives are...so they are part of you too.

I agree that sometimes family is bad...and bad for you...and I've had to bitterly and sadly accept that fact of life...and even though they don't have a role in my life no longer...they are still family and I still think of them and don't have any ill will...but it's sad when some people won't grow up or just have misguided values. Their problem and not mine.

My sons and grandsons. A few of my son's friends. My mother. 1 daughter-in-law. 1 uncle, 1 aunt. My best friend.

My biological family is much larger than this. However, the people named above would drop everything at a moments notice and come to my aid--no questions asked. I would do the same for them.

To me, that is family.

You are right. All those people you mentioned are family members.
Most people only thinks of immediate family members only but they are wrong. Like the saying " One big happy family " and that's what you have.

Good Luck
