I download in my wife’s garden to avoid having to pay for expensive fertilizer. So why is she so angry & upset when I’m saving us a bundle of money?

Considering the view people have about human waste, she probably sees it as you disrespecting her rather than you being fruggle or cheap.

Well, maybe she's a little perturbed when she's digging with her hands in the garden and comes across one of your logs with her hands. Me, I'd put it in your pillow case and give you a taste of your own medicine.....
