i just baught this 1995 ford thunerbird , the car was well taken care of and pampered and very clean...i baught it and took it for a smog check ...the mechanic said it was in good shape but the CO emision was unusually high and it barely made it through the testing ! .....so i was wondering what could i do to take good care of it and make sure it doesnt fail in the next test ( in one year )....i talked with him and he said there are aftermarket fuel treatments to clean the fuel lines and he said it might just need a new catalytic converter , the car only has 79 k miles on ...so what should i do ?

i would replace the oxygen sensors and replace the spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter and pcv valve these items should help clean up your IM test next time as these all will bring your emissions down considerably plus make sure you double check the sparkplug gap as they are not always set properly.periodic oil changes will also keep emissions down good luck with your new car

If you don't know the car's maintanence history then do a complete tune-up and definately run a fuel injector cleaner through it as well as some isopropyl dry gas. If the car has been sitting it may have developed condensation in the tank. I would not recommend a new converter unless it is definately needed. By the way, it's not a bad idea to use the injector cleaner regularly. Read the bottle to see how often your brand is recommended. Happy Holidays.

It just needs a proper tuneup. Didn't your mechanic suggest that?

It's 2006. A 1995 Ford isn't new.
