(x^3)y - 3(x^2)(y) - 10xy

First, factor the biggest term you can out of all three. In this case, it would be xy.

xy [x^2 - 3x - 10]

Now, factor as normal.

xy (x - 5) (x + 2)

X^3y – 3x^2y – 10xy = xy( x^2- 3x -10) =xy(x+2)(x-5) .

first factor the common variable out of the three terms
xy(x^2-3x-10)
then factor the quadratic equation
xy(x-5)(x+2)
then nothing else i think
