My dog is at day 63 of gestation and has been sort of shuddering and shaking all day, no puppies, but does have some leakage of fluids . . . when should I be concerned about her health and the health of the puppies? It has not been readily apparent to me that she is having contractions (I can't see them, or even feel a hard belly) Any ideas? Input?

Please no comments about spaying . . . this was a planned pregnancy

what kind of dog is this? how come no one ever says what kind of dog they have? different breeds require different answers sometimes. since most dogs go into labor at day 63, i would say this is the beggining of labor. if no pups by morning i would call the vet, they will give you further instructions. if you see your dog pushing though for more than an hour and nothing, you need to take her to an emergency clinic. the bill for emergency clinic or possible c-section will be costly, but you planned and have the money available anyway since it was a planned pregnancy. so no worries.

It sounds like your dog is in the starting stages of labor. When she is in labor she will only have a tight tummy during contractions each stage of labor can take between 1 and 2 hours but as stated in previous post if she is pushing hard for more than an hour take her to a vet. By pushing hard I mean you will be able to tell her tummy will get rock hard she will probually pant and may eevn squat like she is going to use the bathroom. Dont hover to close and stay calm she can feel your stress and it will stress her making labor more difficult for her. Good luck on your new babies!!!!!!

I would probably consult her vet. There will be few people here with knowledgable answers and with something as delicate as a pregnancy you might need fast and helpful answers that only a vet can provide.
