It is Diwali. It is an Indian Celebration, one of the most important one too. Search it up on a search engine to clarify your doubts.

It's celebrated by Hindus. Its the festival of lights. Which is like a methphor to represent goo over evil. Mother Latchmi is the Goddess of Lights, so they give thanks to her. I live in the Caribbean (Trinidad to the exact) & since my country is a mixture of ALL races, even though I'm not a Hindu, we all take part in the festivities of Divali. On that night, most people turn of their lights & they go out side into the streets to look at the beautifully lit Diyas( which are like tiny clay cups with oil in it and a candle wick). Thousands of these are lit all over the country especially in the areas where there are mainly east indians people, they wear traditional east indian clothing, Saris (sah-rees)for the women & Dhotis (Doe-tees)for the men. The kids play out side, lighting starlights & bursting Bamboo sticks. Its very very fun. The food is very delicious, we eat roti & many other indian dishes! Oh & we do spell it DI"V"ALI.

Hindus, Jainists and Sikhists celebrate Diwali. It is the festival of lights. It symbollically shows the defeat of evil by good. By lighting the lamps, we show celebration and hope for mankind. These lights are called Diyas.
Diwali is the name used by North Indians for the holiday while South Indians call it Deepavali. They both translate to "row of lights".
